Abstract (EN)

Abstract This study aims to examine the managerial representation of female academics in universities in Turkey, to identify the challenges they face in their managerial careers, and to evaluate them in terms of gender equality policies while offering solutions. The data used in the study were obtained from literature reviews, articles on the Dergi Park (dergipark.com.tr) website, electronically sourced and library-accessible books, and the websites of relevant institutions. The research reviewed in the literature shows that gender representation inequality in universities increases towards the upper echelons of the academic hierarchy and is quite pronounced in managerial positions. Gender-based barriers such as the glass ceiling and role conflicts make it difficult for female academics to advance in their managerial careers. Contradictory expectations between social life and work life constitute a significant obstacle for female academics in evaluating career opportunities. The increased representation of women in managerial roles in universities is critical for reducing gender inequality and raising awareness in the academic community. At this point, by understanding the importance of the managerial representation of female academics in universities in terms of gender equality, this study aims to show state policies and solutions developed within universities to increase the access of female academics to managerial positions.
