Folk medicine in the villages of Banaz district of Uşak province

The subject of our research is "Folk Medicine in the Villages of Banaz District, Uşak Province." The study area consists of forty-six villages in Banaz District, Uşak Province. These villages are: Ahat, Alaba, Ayrancı, Ayvacık, Bağkonak, Bahadır, Balcıdamı, Baltalı, Banaz Village, Burhaniye, Büyükoturak, Corum, Çamsu, Çiftlik, Çöğürlü, Derbent, Dümenler, Düzkışla, Düzlüce, Gedikler, Güllüçam, Gürlek, Halaçlar, Hasan, Hatıplar, Kaplangı, Karacahisar, Karaköse, Kavacık, Kayılı, Kızılcaören, Kızılhisar, Kuşdemir, Küçükler, Küçükoturak, Muratlı, Ovacık, Öksüz, Paşacık, Reşadiye, Susuz, Şaban, Ulupınar, Yazıtepe, Yenice and Yeşilyurt. During the study observation and interview techniques were used. A voice recorder and phone camera were used to collect and document data during the compilation process. This study consists of an Introduction, three main chapters, a Conclusion, an Index of Source Persons, a Bibliography and Appendices. The introduction section includes the following headings: "The Subject, Area, and Purpose of the Research," "Research Methodology," "Geographical Structure and History" and "Basic Concepts." The first section of the thesis is titled "Structural Characteristics of Banaz Hearths." Under this title, topics such as the ways of becoming an hearth, age distribution in hearths, distribution of women and men in hearths, educational status in hearths, occupational groups in hearths, treatment in hearths and patients applying to hearths are discussed. The second section of the study consists of the title "Diseases Treated in Banaz Hearths and Treatment Methods." This section includes topics such as mouth sore hearth, aydaş hearth, bezeme hearth, çakma hearth, boil hearth, dislocation hearth, spleen cutting hearth, poppy hearth, belly pulling hearth, eye scraping/spitting hearth, hiccup cutting hearth, belly pulling/wrapping/rubbing hearth, fracture hearth, hearth where people who are afraid go, ear shaking/flapping hearth, hives hearth, evil eye hearth, parpı/parpılama hearth, hearth lisping/late talking/non-speaking children are taken, eruption/spraying hearth, jaundice hearth, wart hearth, dermatitis hearth, holding hearth and burning hearth. The third chapter titled "Diseases and Traditional Treatment Methods in the Villages of Banaz" discusses treatments for ailments such as offering sacrifices/rituals, mouth ulcers, pain, treatments for children who wet the bed, bee sting, athlete's foot, kidney stone, sprain, boil, dislocation, umbilical hernia in children, treatments for children with foul odors or skin blemishes, treatments for childless individuals, treatments for intestinal worm in children, treatments for overly noisy children, treatments for unruly children, eczema, paralysis, internal bleeding, inflammation, diarrhea, cancer, itching/scabies, katlama, bone erosion, measles, scarlet fever, cholesterol, fear, rabies, cutting shackles, urticaria, hemorrhoids, migraine, bruise/swelling, calluses, evil eye, cough/difficulty breathing/asthma, stammering/slow-speaking children, diaper rash, rheumatism, jaundice, psoriasis, malaria, wart, diabetes, hypertension, dermatitis, cracked heel/hand, tumor, varicose, removing foreign objects from the body, burn and wounds.
