Determining the weeds in wheat cultivation areas in the province of Usak and evaluating the effectiveness of herbicides against some weeds

In this study a survey was conducted to determine the species, frequency, and density of the weeds in wheat cultivation areas in the province of Uşak and pot studies were conducted to evaluate the performance of herbicides on Avena barbata Pott ex Link subsp. barbata, Galium tricornutum Dandy, Papaver rhoeas L. and Convolvulus arvensis L., which are commonly seen in wheat cultivation areas, three different growth stage of bread wheat and pasta wheat. As a result of survey studies, a total of 76 taxa at the level of 11 genera, 65 species and subspecies belonging to 24 families were identified and it was determined that weeds were not intense in general but some species were widespread. With the application of herbicides to Sönmez 2001 and Çeşit 1252 wheat varieties at the end of tillering (BBCH 29-30), on increase in thousand grain weight was recorded. Although it was seen that there were differences according to the herbicides and treatment period among species in weed control, it was determined that more successful results could be generally obtained with the herbicide treatments in the (2-4) earlier growth stages of weeds (BBCH 12-14), than their late period treatments.
