The effect of alternatiPpapaver somniferum L.) in ecological conditions of uşak province

Poppy (Papaver somniferum L.), traditionally grown in Turkey, and has strategic and economic importance. For this reason, it is important to obtain maximum yield from the unit area of poppy. This study was carried out in a farmer's field in the village of Koyunbeyli of Uşak province in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 production years in order to determine the effect of alternative winter and summer sowing times on yield and yield components of poppy. In the study, Cv. Ofis 3 of poppy was used as material. The experiment was carried out according to the randomized blocks design with three replications. As a result of the research; plant height was ranged first year 34.25-82.70 cm, second year 33.54-86.20 cm, capsule width first year 15.23-29.97 mm, second year 15.10-30.80 mm, capsule length the first year 28.93-50.07 mm, the second year 28.70-49.30 mm, morphine rate first year 1.17%- 1.45%, second year 1.07%-1.29%, capsule yield per decare first year 20.87-105.28 kg/da, second year 17.55-107.11 kg/da, seed yield per decare first year 23.00-112.61 kg/da, second year 19.83-116.78 kg/da was found. In the study, lower values were obtained in terms of plant height, number of capsules per plant, capsule width, capsule length, seed yield and capsule yield in summer sowing times compared to winter sowing. However, the rate of morphine obtained from the capsules was higher in summer sowings than winter sowings. In the study, the best results were obtained from winter sowings. The most suitable summer sowing time, which can be an alternative to winter sowing, should be done as early as possible and between 1 February and 15 February. However, it is noteworthy that the values obtained from summer sowings are significantly lower than winter sowings.
