Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the current study is to examine the career adaptation abilities of the gifted students in term of career construction approach. The study based on qualitative research design was carried out with a total of 15 10th grade gifted students 7 (46% female and 56% male), who was determined using the purposeful sampling method, studying a Science and Arts Center (SAC) in the Eastern Anatolia in the 2016-2017 academic year. Data, which was collected through the Career Construction Interview was analyzed using the MAXQDA 18, which is a computer-aided qualitative data analysis program based codes created using the literature and Career Construction Theory. According to the findings, the curiosity has become the most frequently observed theme (self-knowledge n= 29, investigative n= 12, curiosity n= 8, and exploring the environment n= 2). The concern followed this theme (awareness of the future n= 7, preparing for the future n= 7, plan n= 3, future-oriented n= 3, hope n = 2, and optimism n = 1). Thirdly, the control was observed (responsibility n = 10, patience n = 3, independence n = 5, decision-making skill n = 2, deep thought n = 1). The confidence has been a least observed dimension (self-confidence n = 2, coping with difficulties n = 2, and learning new skills n = 1). These findings have been discussed in the context of career development characteristics of gifted students within the relevant literature on career adaptation abilities. In summary, the findings pointed out the needing to plan programs, which will enhance self-confidence and self-belief and improve hope and optimism levels of gifted students in the providing of the career adaptability of gifted adolescents.
