Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the contribution of different recording protocols in Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials in the diagnosis of Meniere's Disease. Materials and Methods: The research was conducted at Malatya İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center Audiology Clinic, between October 2023 and November 2023, for individuals between the ages of 18-55 who were previously diagnosed with Meniere's Disease at the Ear Nose and Throat Diseases Polyclinic, and for the control group, healthy individuals in the same age range. It was carried out with volunteers. 26 individuals with a definite diagnosis of Meniere's Disease who met the inclusion criteria in the case group of the study and 24 healthy individuals in the control group were included. Cervical Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials Test and Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials Test were applied to the individuals participating in the study using air conduction and bone conduction tone burst stimulation at frequencies of 500, 750 and 1000 Hz. Results: In the air conduction and bone conduction c-VEMP test of the individuals in the case group participating in the study, a statistically significant difference was found in the wave incidence rate, P1-N1 amplitude, amplitude asymmetry and inter-frequency amplitude ratio values between the affected ear, unaffected ear and the control group (p< 0.05). In the O-VEMP test, a statistically significant difference was found between the affected ear, unaffected ear and the control group in the values of N1 latency, P1 latency, N1-P1 amplitude, amplitude asymmetry and inter-frequency amplitude ratio (p<0.05). Conclusion: Due to the increase in the resonance frequency of otolith organs in Meniere's patients as a result of endolymphatic hydrops, the maximum amplitude frequency in the VEMP test shifts to higher frequencies compared to healthy individuals, and the amplitude ratio between frequencies can be used as a parameter that facilitates the diagnosis of Meniere's Disease.
