Abstract (EN)

In the first years of the cinema, the audience exhibited unclear and real-life snapshots. These short films, consisting of one angle and one plan without different plans, were liked by the audience in a short time because of their similarity to the real world. Over time, these short films began to be replaced by narrative. Cinema, which is on the way to become art, has been influenced by other art branches. At that time, theater was the art branch where it was most impressed and one to one. Cinema remained within the borders of the theater in its early stages. The art of cinema, which has become a major industry in the world, has adapted the works that people previously liked and loved. William Shakespeare was one of the authors who was mostly adapted from theater to cinema. His play called King Lear was adapted to the cinema many times and even adapted to different cultures and transferred to the screen with a different narrative style. The cinematic narrative met with semiotic analysis in the 1960s. This method, which was used for literary analysis in the early days, was later used in the analysis of products in different branches such as cinema, music, and advertising posters. In the thesis, narrative syllabus and operational examples of Algirdas Julien Greimas, who found his own method of analysis inspired by the narrative science of Vladimir Propp and Propp, were discussed. In line with this information, the structural and narrative changes that William Shakespeare's famous game 'King Lear' experienced while adapting to cinema were examined. As a result, it was determined that one-to-one adaptation was not made and that it was subject to changes while being adapted to the cinema.
