The history of banking activities reaches up to ancient civilizations. This system, which was carried out in beginning of the Ottoman Empire by tradesmen and goldsmith, left its place mostly with Galata Bankers and foreign capital when it came to the 19th century. In the case of foreign borrowing as a result of the necessity of foreign capital, the fact that bank and banking functions have not got a wide scale in terms of monetary credit and capital accumulation has shaped Turkish banks and banking sector in a liberal policy framework. When it comes to the period of Committee of Union and progress, it opened the way for national economy politics and domestic banking activities to be seen. Since the first half of the 19th century, banks with foreign capital have begun to be seen in a developed region such as İzmir. Prior to the announcement of the Republic, it is known that many domestic and foreign banks continue to function in the Ottoman lands.
