Selecting and developing teaching/learning materials?how to teach foreigners the gerunds

Teaching Turkish as a foreign language has been a developing academic field during the last years. Teaching grammar has an important place in this academic field. Functional materials, which are used to teach grammar, have an undeniable contribution to facilitate the effectiveness of learning.One of the topics that has been worked on teaching Turkish to foreigners is gerunds. They are considered as difficult topics not only for students but also for teachers. The aim of this master study is developing class materials for teaching clauses that are generated via Turkish gerund suffixes ?ArAk, -Ip, -IncA and ?AlI to foreigners.The academic literature for teaching Turkish to foreigners was investigated according to the aim of study and gaps for teaching gerunds were detected in the literature. The unique materials were developed to close these gaps.Functional methods, communicative approach and task-based language learning were introduced in the study. The tasks that were conceived for teaching gerund clause in Turkish were focused in targeted structure as communicative approach.The materials that were developed to facilitate teaching process of certain Turkish gerunds are targeting upper intermediate level students. The developed materials were presented to a few foreigner Turkish students and the materials were evaluated based on their feedbacks.
