Abstract (EN)
The purpose of the present study was to uncover whether the use of cultural-themed documentaries in teaching Turkish to international students at the B2 Level affected the development of guided writing skills. The "Action Research Model" was preferred in the study for the researcher to monitor the entire process accurately and to create and implement a detailed action plan for the identified problem, also considering that the Action Research Model would enable the use of qualitative and quantitative data. The data collection process of the study was performed under two headings as "Action Plan Development" and "Action Plan Implementation". The study was conducted at the Turkish Language Teaching Application and Research Center of a state university. At the end of the study, improvements were detected in the writing skills of students in terms of complying with spelling rules and accurately using punctuation marks. Positive developments were also detected in terms of students using punctuated sounds correctly, dividing syllables correctly, and forming correct sentences. There were improvements in the ability of the students to follow the spelling rules and use uppercase and lowercase letters correctly. Also, it was determined in the observation forms kept for each student after each activity that the students who constantly made the same mistakes no longer made those mistakes when the process was completed. It was determined within the scope of the study in the interviews conducted to determine the educators' opinions regarding the practices that all of the educators expressed positive opinions about the writing practices. Educators also stated that guided writing practices improved the writing skills of the students by supporting them in different aspects. Based on the findings obtained in the study, some recommendations were made for educators and researchers regarding the contribution of practice-based writing activities to the development of writing skills and the academic development of international students learning Turkish.
