Abstract (EN)

Stratigraphic units of the study area that located in the north of Pınarbaşı township of Kayseri are represented by Çardakboğazı Dere Formation (Permian), Aşıdağı Formation (Triassic), Topmeşe Tepe Formation (Jurassic-Cretaceous) - Yeldeğirmeni Tepe Limestone member (Upper Jurassic- Lower Cretaceous) and Maden Tepe Formation (Maestrichtian-Paleocene) of Pınarbaşı Group Yağlıpınar Formation (Palaeocene -Eocene) and Köprübaşı Formation (Pliocene).Permian aged Çardakboğazı Formation contains dolomitic and recrystallized limestone. This formation is overlained uncomformably by Jurassic - Cretaceous aged Topmeşe Tepe Formation which consists of algal limestone and dolomitic limestone. Kocadağ limestone member which composed of recrystallized and dolomitic limestone cover tectonially the old units. Upper Jura-Lower Cretaceous aged Yeldeğirmeni Tepe Formation contains thick bedded limestone which overlain uncomformably by Kocadağ limestone member. Maden Tepe Formation (Upper Maestrichtian) is composed of dunite, harzburgite and pyroxenite. Paleocene-Eocene aged Yağlıpınar Formation is composed of conglomerate, sandstone, red mudstone and limestone. Köprübaşı formation contains conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone and marl which is overlained by the younger units uncomformably. In this study Yağlıpınar Formation has been divided as Altıkesek member and Karaboğaz member. Altıkesek member is characterized by middle alluvial fan and distal fan deposits. Middle fan deposits is composed of matrix supported conglomerate, clast supported conglomerate, trough cross-bedded sandstone and horizontal stratified sandstone characterizing braided channels. Distal alluvial fan deposits consist of fine grained sandstone, caliche bearing red mudstone and lenticular body limestone. Karaboğaz member is composed of floodplain deposits and lacustrine deposits. Carbonate nodules bearing massive mudstone was widely developed in the basin characterizing flood plain deposits. Lacustrine deposit is composed of massive limestone that contain mudcracks, microcarst, charophytes fossils and stromatolite. Distal alluvial fan flood plain and lacustrine facies association which was widely developed in the basin similar anastomosed river system. The sequence of Yağlıpınar Formation characterize from coarse-grained braided to anastomosed rivers system.Facies aspects and basin fill characteristics of Yağlıpınar Formation indicate that the sequence was developed NE-SW oriented graben. The alluvial deposits were derived from limestone forming Permian-Cretaceous basement.KEY WORDS: Sedimentology, alluvial fan, flood plain, lacustrine, Yağlıpınar Formation, Kayseri, Turkey.
