Abstract (EN)
Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu (1889-1974) writed from the end of The Second Constitutional Monarchy term to 1956. He portrayed the social, political and historical events of the period he lives in view of realism. His novels and short stories reflects the great social alterations of Turkish society.Relation of woman and modernisation which is one of the most important subjects of Turkish literature from the beginning of the Reform Period(1839), is discussed in Yakup Kadri?s works. The multiplicity and diversity of female characters in his works is a result of the writers sensibility for this subject.In this research the female characters analyzed according to their characteristic kinds and categorized according to their fictional functions. Determination of the dominant images of women in the society and viewpoint of the writer are studied. The reflection of the social and intelectual changes and the writers artistic views on female characters are investigated. The writer made social critiques on positive and negative female characters and offered a model to Turkish woman.Keywords: Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu, woman, education, character.
