Natural ventilation guidelines for removing indoor air pollution

The main aim of the buildings is to answer all kind of needs of the users. The negative features of the indoor air quality, which belongs to the physical environments of the buildings in which the humans spend their most of their times, are among the important factors which cause health problems for humans.The mixture ratios of the substances which forms the air, the air change amount, temperature, relative humidity of the air and air flow speed are the factors that affect the indoor air quality. Indoor air pollution is known as the change of the natural mixture ratios of the substances in the air or the accumulation of the natural or artificial air pollutants in the indoor air. Various health problems occur when the indoor air is not in required quality.The most effective method to prevent indoor air pollution is to have a adequate ventilation. Ventilation can be performed by using air conditioning systems or through the natural ventilation guidelines.The energy consumption of the air conditioning systems are rather high compared to natural ventilation. They also require a periodic service. Because of these reasons their utilization and maintenance costs are high.The planning of the natural ventilation methods start with design process of the building as determining the features of the area in which the building is going to be situated, environmental climate features, and the direction. The air is taken inside the building through the openings which is created on the skin of the building and the design of these openings and details are important. Again the air is transported to the rooms and the polluted air of the rooms is removed through the openings.It is necessary that to know the properties of indoor air, the features of the pollutants, their effects on the users, the design strategies about natural ventilation methods in terms of increasing the indoor air quality.Key Words: Indoor air quality, indoor air pollutants, natural ventilation.
