Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, seismic isolation which is used since thirty years in the world to prevent collapse of buildings and saving life, and their design procedure are explained. Firstly, philosophy of seismic isolation and it?s advantages are given and the earthquake response of a isolated structure compared with the response of a conventional one. Developing of seismic isolation in the World and in Turkey, classifications, characteristic parameters of isolation for each type, and external factors which affect the rigidity of isolation are explained in detail. In addition, design of seismic isolation is described according to IBC2000 code provision and analysis procedure is given. In the last section, for a 5 stories building high damping rubber bearing (HDRB) and lead rubber bearing (LRB) isolators are designed according to vertical, horizontal load and their positions. Time history analysis is carried out for the structure models on SAP2000N program and get there dimensional results bye using characteristic parameters. Also this structure analysed on SAP2000N program as a conventional structure, and results of seismic isolated two structures and conventional one are compared. Finally, by considering the results of comparisons, advantages of isolated systems over conventional structures are discussed.
