A new model approach for building material information technology system selecting the building material

ABSTRACTThe ability of a building serving needs of users is directly related to building material. Thearchitect who is in the position to decide selection of building products has to evaluate manyvariables like user?s needs, product?s properties, environmental and economical properties etc.when selecting the product which will be useful during the building?s usage.To reach the correct result in selecting products, all these variables have to be evaluated andselection must be done with the help of this evaluation.Aim of this study is utilization how a building product?s information technology system canbe developed for building products? selection.In the first chapter of this study, the subject?s purpose and content were determined.In the second chapter, the product selection system and the place of product information in theproduct selection is explained.In the third chapter, the concepts as information, information technology, datum, system,information system, the sub systems of information technology systems and classificationtheory that are useful in the classification of product?s information were examined.In the fourth chapter of this study, the building product?s classification and informationtechnology systems developed in the world and Türkiye is investigated.In the fifth chapter, product information of building products is classified and their propertiesexamined by using the systems investigated in the fourth chapter.In the sixth chapter the suggestion for building product?s information technology system thatis the purpose of the study was presented, the system?s structure and components is alsoexplained in this chapter.In the results chapter, the benefits and suggestions that are brought by developed productinformation technology system brought to building product selection is explained.Key words: Product selection, selection, product information, information technology,building products information technology
