Failure behavior of adhesively bonded and riveted composite joints

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the failure behavior of adhesively bonded composite joints, riveted composite joints and adhesively bonded with riveted composite joints were investigated and compared experimentally. Composite materials that used in this study were made of glass (shopped strand mat)-polyester. The thickness of specimens are 2.5 mm. D is the diameter of the rivet and it is constant (5 mm). E is the distance between free edge of specimen and hole/bond axis. W is the width of the specimen. The width to diameter (W/D) ratios, and the distance between the free edge of specimen and hole/bond axis to diameter (E/D) ratios were changed 2 to 4 and 1 to 4, respectively. Specimens in 12 different geometries were bonded by adhesives, rivets and adhesives with rivets were loaded by the Instron ? 1114 Tensile Testing Machine and failure types and loads were determined.
