The Effects of Creative Dancing Activities on Motivation, Self-Esteem,Self-Efficacy and Dancing PerformanceThis research has been realised in order to study the effects of the creativedancing activities performed in the ?Play, Dance and Music? course on motivation,self-esteem, body language- and dance-related self-efficacy and dancingperformance.The study has been carried out in the 2007-2008 education year on thefourth-year Music Education Major students in the Department of Education of FineArts and fourth-year Pre-School Major students in the Department of ElementarySchool Education in Dokuz Eylül University, Buca School of Education. Due to thepresence of two different and dissimilar groups, two different research models havebeen utilised in the research. In the first one of the experiment groups, namely theMusic Education Experiment Group, the time-series model has been utilised,whereas in the Pre-School Education Group pretest-posttest model with controlgroup has been applied, where creative dancing activities have been performed in theexperiment group only and not in the control group.The research data have been collected via the Play, Dance and MusicCourse Motivation Scale, the Self-Esteem Evaluation Questionnaire, the BodyLanguage- and Dance-Related Self-Efficacy Questionnaire and the DancingPerformance Test.The results of the research have shown that creative dancing activities havea meaningful effect on the Play, Dance and Music course motivation, self-esteem,body language- and dance-related self-efficacy and dancing performance of prospectmusic teachers. In the Pre-School Education Experiment Group, the creative dancingactivities have been found to create a meaningful and positive increase on the coursemotivation and body language- and dance-related self-efficacy in comparison to theinitial state. Whereas the dancing performance of the experiment group has increasedmeaningfully as compared to the control group, no meaningful increase in selfesteemhas been observed.
