Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of teaching problem solving with creative drama method in mathematics lesson on learners' problem-solving skills and metacognition awareness. For this purpose, mixed research method was adopted. In order to examine the effect of the creative drama method, twenty hours of problem solving with creative drama were taught. In quantitative research methods, experimental and control group experimental research method was used. The study group of the research consists of 46 primary school fourth grade students in Istanbul. In order to examine students' problem-solving skills, the "Problem Posing Skills Test" developed by Divrik (2019) was used. In order to examine the students' metacognitive awareness, the "Metacognitive Awareness Scale" scale developed by Sperling, Howad and Murphy (2002) and adapted to Turkish by Karakelle and Saraç (2007) was used. Mann-Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test were used in the analysis of the problem setting test and metacognition awareness scale. Descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of the qualitative questions in the "Assessment Papers" used in the process of creative drama courses. The "Problem Data Scale" developed by Güven (2015) was used to evaluate the problems posed during the creative drama lessons. According to the result, it can be said that the use of creative drama method in mathematics has a positive effect on students'problem-posing skills. At the end of the experimental procedure, when the metacognitive awareness of the students was examined, it was found that there was no significant difference between the two groups. As a result, the use of creative drama method did not affect students' metacognition awareness. During the experimental process, students were more successful in posing problems requiring addition and subtraction than other operations, and their problem posing skills improved.
