PROPOSAL OF A MODEL FOR ASSESSMENT OF THEENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS WITHINTHE CONTEXT OF ?LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT? METHODOLOGY(Ph.D Thesis)Arzuhan Burcu GÜLTEK NGAZ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYDecember 2006ABSTRACTThe environmental impacts of the construction products should be assessedduring their lives to sustain healthy human life, and to improve theenvironmental quality. This process, which is called life cycle, consists ofextraction of raw materials, production, construction, usage, demolition, and after demolition stages. Construction products may cause variousenvironmental impacts during each stage of their life cycles. These products, which have long service lives, require maintenance with some methods andintervals during usage stage. The construction products may causeenvironmental impacts that derange human health related to these methodsand intervals. For this purpose, an open-end model for assessment of theenvironmental impacts of construction products during their life cycleswithin the context of life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology was proposedin the thesis. The model was concretized by a case study of an assessment ofthe environmental impacts of wallpapers related to maintenance in theusage stage.Science Code : 804.1.100Key Words : Life Cycle Assessment, Construction Products, EnvironmentalImpact, Usage Stage, Maintenance, WallpapersPage Number : 79Adviser : Prof. Dr. Gülser ÇELEB
