Abstract (EN)

The new instruments introduced to the capital market and the contingents about future have motivated the investors to manage their portfolios more professionally.Bringing out the optimal portfolio with their own sources is hard to achieve for individual investors both in data and also financially. The importance of mutual funds is improving in these fields requiring expertise.Mutual founds industry has been developing rapidly both in Turkey and all around world, which brings up the issue of measuring the performances of these funds. Investors base their decisions about which funds to choose on the returns of the funds that are compared by using selected comparison methods. In this thesis, it was researched whether the performance realised from January 2005 to June 2008 ( during 42 months ) of 60 funds selected from 6 type of Type A and Type B funds operating in Turkey have been higher with the reference to the market portfolio performance. For this reason, Sharpe, Treynor and Jensen indexs were used as performance measurement methods.Keys words: Capital Markets, Mutual Funds, Performance Measurement Methods, Performance Evaluation.
