Abstract (EN)
The traffic produced by the video streaming applications takes an important place in the Internet traffic. Nowadays, video streaming application developers prefer to use HTTP streaming since HTTP traffic provides reliable communication and passes through the firewalls easily. The demand from the industry caused MPEG group to develop DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) standard recently. On the other hand, SDN (Software Defined Networks) is a new technology which separates the control and forwarding planes of network routers. In this thesis, an approach utilizing SDN technology in order to improve the performance of dynamic adaptive HTTP video streaming applications is developed. DASH application specific characteristics are taken into the consideration in this study. The comparative performance results of the proposed approach are reported. The performance evaluations show that the proposed methods provide an increase in Quality of Experience achieved by DASH clients.
