A study on naviculoid diatoms of Yedigöller (Bolu)

Diatoms are unicellular algae with unique characteristics because of its siliceous structure. These organisms can live in all kinds of aquatic habitats, including fresh water and salt water as well as humid environments with different environmental factors. They are indicator organsms to monitor waters due to their adaptation to different environmental conditions. Yedigöller National Park is located in the Western Black Sea Region where north of Bolu Province and south of Zonguldak Province. In this study, the samples of diatoms were collected previously and stored in the Diatom Laboratory at Dumlupınar University. The frustules were prepared before examination. For this purpose, the samples were cooked in HCl and H2O2. Then, the slides mounted by Naphrax. Then the slides were investigatedusing OLYMPUS BX51 Light Microscope in the Diatom Laboratory atDumlupınar University using x100 immersion objective. As a result, totally 75 taxa were identified from different genera in Naviculales group. From these taxa; Chamaepinnularia muscicola, Craticula lange-bertalotii, Diadesmis biceps, Diploneis calcilacustris, D. krammeri, D. nanofontanella, D. oblongellopsis, D. parahinziae, D. separanda, Fallacia lenzii, Frustulia asiatica, Hippodonta arkonensis, Humidophila arcuatoides, H. brekkaensis, H. paracontenta, Mayamaea lacunolaciniata, Navicula catalanogermenica, N. cryptofallax, N.moskalii, Naviculadicta vitabunda, Pinnularia anglica, Pinnularia lundii var. linearis, Pinnularia subgibba var. undulata, Placoneis ignorata, Sellaphora crassulexigua, Stauroneis blazenciciae, S. gracilior, S. intricans and S. thermicola have been reported as new records for Turkish Freshwater Diatom Flora.
