Abstract (EN)

The subject of this research is about the extent that new communication technologies effect the news producing practice and professional culture of today's journalism. Therefore the change and conversion in the professional practices of today's journalists were examined in terms of direct experiences of journalists working on various subjects and their observations on the working practices of their colleagues. Multiple research method was used in the research: On one hand the attitudes and opinions of journalists employed in media about new communication technologies and their new technology usage habits were examined by using survey method. On the other hand, the effects of new communication technologies on traditional journalism were discussed through the data compiled by interview technique. In this context the effects of new communication technologies (new media environment) on traditional journalism practices were emphasized through attitudes of journalists towards new communication technologies, their usages of communication technologies, their purpose in using social media, their interactions with the audience and their opinions about professional journalist identity. At the end of the research it was observed that most of the journalists have a positive attitude towards new communication technologies. In this direction, it was determined that they adopted social media as a platform especially for news and information search, following up the agenda and expressing their personal opinions. It was determined that new media created new / alternative journalism opportunities but that traditional media and existing news production code and norms are still in a strong position in terms of journalism. Keywords: New media, convergence, traditional journalism culture, social media, public/civic journalism.
