Acoustic evaluation for adaptive reuse of performance spaces: The case of Kadikoy

Performance venues used for functions such as concerts, cinemas, conferences, theaters and operas need acoustic quality as well as visual comfort. Requirements such as changes in functions, type of space, user diversity, sound systems, visual comfort conditions and the needs that arise over time are effective in the acoustic quality of indoor performance spaces. In the city of Istanbul, many performance venues are adaptive reuse today. Over time, the use of spaces develops and a space may need to have more than one function. For this study, the district of Kadikoy, which is socio-economically and culturally developed and has a high concentration of reused performance venues, was chosen. In the case of Kadıköy district; Moda Sahnesi, Oyun Atölyesi and Baba Sahne were included in the study as small-scale performance venues with similar performance functions, hall types and dimensions. These selected multifunctional indoor performance venues were determined by calculations based on on-site architectural measurements and computer simulations by objective evaluation; obtained based on survey studies survey studies conducted in the halls by subjective evaluation. As a result of these, statistical analysis studies were carried out by examining the data obtained. As a result of the study; it seems that the Moda Stage, Baba Stage and Oyun Atölyesi halls are suitable for multifunctional performances in terms of acoustic quality requirements.
