That I?m from Trabzon, surely has played a very important role in preparing thisthesis. Trabzon is a geography which has always important at every stage of history.Trabzon, conquered by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in an era whem the Ottoman State becameempire, was a crucially important city due to its predominance over the Black Sea. Prior tothe Ottomans, the Roman Empire ruled over Trabzon, which was predominantly composedof non-muslim population. With Fatih Sultan?s conquering Trabzon, housing policy wascarried out and the people from different parts of the Empire were indwelled here. BesidesMuslim majority, Greeks, Armenians and Jews lived in Trabzon. Trabzon, a sanjak duringthe Ottoman Empire era and a city where many Ottoman Sultans were educated,maintained its stratagic status until the last days of Ottoman Rule.After the Ottoman Empire had joined the world war I and lost it, minorities livingunder the Ottoman sovereignty began to plan to set up their own states. The struggle whichAtatürk launched in samsun uncovered one of the most important features of Trabzon;?Fond of Independence? This fond is generally speaking, avaliable in many Turks nature.Trabzon people were in the center of approaching danger. Because Trabzon had been setup on the Roman Empire soil, which made it crucially important during the NationalStruggle.?İstikbâl Newspaper? was very important because it was the first published paperin Anatolia and the first media upholding the National Struggle; of course, there were someother papers not supporting the National Struggle While ?İstikbâl Newspaper? was for theNational Struggle, ?Selâmet Newspaper? was agains it.I have written about Trabzon media in the period between the national Struggleand the final days of multiparty system. In this respect, I?ve selected the topic ?TrabzonMedia, transition to Multiparty system and Democrat Party? for my thesis.In the last party of my thesis, I focused on the news about Democrat Party in thepapers of Halk and Yeniyol, published in Trabzon. The main reason is that these twopapers had been in circulation for a long time and they had different political views onDemocrat Party. For instance, of these papers, Halk Newspaper was on C.H.P.?s side andwas Criticizing D.P. severly from 1946 to 27 May 1960. The owner of YeniyolNewspaper, Bekir Sükûti, would critize D.P. until he resigned from C.H.P., but after heresigned from C.H.P. he started writing on behalf of D.P. and against C.H.P., which wasreally interesting.Although I experienced some negations at the preparative stage of my thesis, I didmy best to reach as many sources as possible. The most important shortage I haddiscovered was the dearth of books about Trabzon Media. But this was both to myadventage and disadvantage.
