Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this thesis is to introduce the Basilica Cistern, which is located at the head of the most interesting historical places in İstanbul, the capital of many civilizations. The historical cistern, designed to meet a city's water needs, has become a museum that fascinates visitors with its structure and mysteries. It is known that this unique structure, which meets the water needs of a city, was left idle after Ottoman Empire and was not used for its intended purpose. It was almost forgotton until it was discovered by a French traveler and introduce to the western world. After this discovery, its popularity started to increase day by day, and it was traveled by other travelers. The Statue of Medusa, which bears traces of Greek mythology, is engraved on columns like a guard to protect İstanbul. After the mummy was found in the sarcophagus, the legend of Şahmeran's tomb was born. The Yerebatan documentary's mission to show the realities of this mystical structure in detail, which we know exists but whose secrets, physical structure, architectural details, artistic sculpture, and historical past are unknown.
