The investigation of the relationship between exercise dependence and narcissism in adults

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the level of narcissism of individuals who exercise regularly. 271 individuals aged between 18 and 65 years participated to the research. Personal information form and Narcissistic Personality Inventory were used as data collection tool. The SPSS 22.0 packet program was used to for data analyze. The suitability of the data for normal distribution was tested by Shapiro-Wilk test. Mann-Whitney U test was used for comparisons between the groups. At the end of the study, there was a significant relationship between the narcissism level of the participants and exercise dependence. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistical analysis and Spearman rho was used in order to determine the difference between variables. At the end of the study, it was determined that there was a significant relationship between the narcissism level and the narcissism dimensions of the participants. There is a significant relationship between narcissism dimensions "superiority", "exhibitionism ", " exploitation", "claim", " self-sufficiency " in terms of sexes. When we look at the level of education with narcissism there is a statistically significant relationship in favor of women in the "claim" dimension. A significant relationship was found between narcissism and Exercise Addiction sub-dimensions "Time and Exercise Preference" and "Continuity.. It was determined that narcissism and exercise dependence levels decreased as the age of the participants increased. In addition, it was determined that the levels of narcissism decreased as the age of the participants increased.
