The investigation of the relationship between psychological resilience five factor personality traits and depression in adults

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between the psychological resilience levels of individuals and their personality traits and depression. For this purpose, the relationships between socio-demographic variables, resilience, depression and five-factor personality traits were examined, and it was investigated whether there was a significant difference between socio-demographic variable groups and dependent variable (psychological resilience, five-factor personality traits and depression) levels. The sample of this research, which was carried out with the relational screening method, consists of 416 people, 165 men and 251 women, aged between 18-65 years in Turkey. In order to collect data, the "Personal Information Form" was used to measure the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants, the "Five Factor Personality Inventory" was used to measure the personality traits, the "Beck Depression Scale" to determine the depression levels, and the "Connor-Davidson Psychological Resilience Scale" to measure the resilience levels. Data analysis was done with SPSS 29.0 package program. According to the results of the research, resilience and all personality dimensions were positively related, while depression was negatively related. While the level of agreeableness was higher in women, the level of conscientiousness was higher in men. It was determined that emotional change was higher in men. Depression scores were higher in women. As a result of regression analysis, it was found that depression and agreeableness, conscientiousness and emotional change predict psychological resilience. The results of the research were discussed in the light of the relevant literature.
