Institutionalization process of philanthropy from past to present in the context of the relationship between poverty and solidarity

Sense of philanthropy is a notion the same age as humaniy. Sense of philanthropy and solidarity plays a major role in the development of humanity and establishment of civilisation. Sense of philanthropy has shown different actors and styles according to the socio- cultural and socia- economic conditions of the period in various periods of history. Foundations, which are the indicators of institutionalization of philanthropy, have emerged according to the needs of people and have evolved overtime and become institurions with legal basis. The foundations of foundation institutions that have developed from the past to the present day have to the desire to be charitable and yo help. With the socialization of people, occurring of sense of helping people in need of protection has evolved over time and institutionalized. Thus, the concept called foundation, emerged with institutions where contents are changed by being defined in importantly poverty situation. In this thesis, we focused on poverty philanthropic practices against from preIslamic period to the present day and The change over time was emphasized. In the historical progress of philanthropy The Ahilik and Guild organization, which constitute one of the solidarity networks, has an important place. The philanthropy inherited to the present has gained an institutional character with foundations and has taken on surprisingly important tasks with poverty. In this context, focused on the historical course of foundations. which struggles against poverty from in the Republican period Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation and their activities on were evaluated within the scope of the research. As a result of the evaluation, the changes that philanthropy, an important network of solidarity in Turkish society, passed from the past to the present are revealed. Philanthropy activities, which started with voluntary activities and shaped by religious solidarity over time, gained an institutional momentum with tax exemption.
