Building an information system for construction, maintenance and repair of roads: The sample of Manisa - Saruhanlı

Population growth and expansion of cities continues rapidly in our country and in the world. Therefore, planning, management and access to accurate data are becoming more difficult. The data which is used during any work or management planned to be made is also increasing. The storage of increased data will be done more accurately and can avoid any clutter of information. In this way, more accurate planning can be made quickly and strategic decisions can be made. In order to establish such a system and keep up with the modern era technological information should be used. In this thesis, a GIS (Geographic Information System) has been established for the roads in the Saruhanli district of Manisa. It is aimed to make preliminary studies by analyzing the data obtained from the generated GIS graphically. In this way, faster, qualified, more accurate business planning and an updateable database were aimed. In the first section of the thesis, general information about the study is given. In the second section, general information about the definition, importance, structure and usage areas of geographical information systems are given. In the third section, general information about the history of Saruhanli district, the current roads and the previous works are given. In the fourth section, general information about construction, maintenance, and repair of roads is given. In the fifth section, the roads, bridges, and culverts based on the system were determined and the data were collected. By using the collected data, scoring was made in case of deterioration of the determined roads. Then, numerical and verbal data were processed on GIS. In the sixth section,in the formation of GIS various data were obtained by making queries. In the seventh section, the obtained data in variations were grouped and distribution charts were formed. In the eighth and last section, conclusions and suggestions about the thesis are given.
