Abstract (EN)
Organizations that are a social system interact with many systems, so those working within the system interact with other parts of the unit as well. The conflict in this interaction is an inevitable concept for business environments. In hospitals where there are conflicts due to various reasons, personality traits is thought to be one of the determinants. Materials and Methods: The research was conducted as a descriptive study in order to determine the effect of personality traits of manager nurses on conflict management strategies. The population of the study consists of hospitals in Istanbul. The sample was selected by Simple Random Sampling method and consisted of manager nurses (n: 114) working in six hospitals in Istanbul between September 2018 / February 2019. Manager nurses (n: 111) who accepted to participate in the study were included in the study and 97.36% of the sample was reached. Personal information form, Conflict Management Strategies Scale and Five Factor Personality Inventory short form were used for data collection. Findings: It was concluded that the preferred conflict management strategy of the nurses participating in the study was Integrating (39,21), Avoiding (38,39), Compromising (31,51), Dominating (20.05) and Obliging (19,42). In the study, there is a weak positive correlation between ''Integration'' dimension and "Extroversion", "Hostility /Agreeableness", ''Conscientiousness/ Undirectedness" personality traits and ''Integration" dimension and ''Openness to Development'' positive in the medium level, between ''Avoiding'' dimension and '' Emotional Stability/Neuroticism'' traits weakly positive level, weakly positive between ''Compromising'' dimension and ''Hostility/ Agreeableness'' feature, There is a weak positive correlation between "Obliging" dimension and "Softness/Agreeableness", ''Conscientiousness/Undirectedness", "Openness to Experience " traits. Conclusion: According to the research data, personality traits are determining factor in conflict management strategies preferences of manager nurses.
