The relationship between the power sources used by executive nurses and the work motivation of nurses

This study was conducted as a descriptive-relationship search to reveal the relationship between the power sources used by executive nurses and nurses work motivation. The data of the study was collected online from 164 nurses between March 2023 and September 2023."Personal Information Form", "Perceived Power Scale from Executive Nurses" and "Work Motivation Scale" were used as data collection tools. While evaluating the study data, frequencies were used for catagorical variables and descriptive statistics were used for numerical variables. Pearson Moment Correlation Analysis was used to test the relationships between measurements and regression analysis was used to reveal the effect of independent variables on the dependent variable. Of the people participating in the study: 67.7% were women,62.8% were married,87.2% had undergraduate and graduate education, 26.8% were employed in inpatient services and their average age was 31.65± 5.90.When the findings are examined, the mean and standard deviation of the sub-dimensions of Charismatic Power, Coercive Power, Rewarding Power, Legal Power, Expert Power (3.32 ±0.78, 3.13 ±0.79, 3.12 ±0.77, 3.30 ±0.75 and 3.13 ±0.84 respectively) were determined. The mean and standard deviation of the Nurses Work Motivation Scale scores are 56.79 ±8.79.A negative and moderately significant relationship was found between the Nurse Work Motivation Scale and only the Coercive Power Sub-dimension. The Coercive Power Sub-dimension score significantly and negatively predicts the Nurse Work Motivation Scale Score(β=-6.467;p<0.05).The Coercive Power Sub-dimension explains 33.6% of the Nurse Work Motivation Scale. According to the results of the findings in this study, the coercive power used by executive nurses is one of the factors that negatively affects nurses's work motivation.
