Case theory in contemporary Turkic dialects on the basic of government and binding theory

The Government and Binding Theory is a syntax theory of the American linguist Noam Chomsky, which describes the syntactic principles that are regarded as constant between languages; therefore, accepted inherently and tries to definitively identify possible exchange parameters among world studies (Pesetsky, 1994: 141). Case Theory, one of the sub-theories of the Government and Binding Theory, tries to explain under what conditions and how the verb, which is the governing element of the sentence, assigns the case suffixes to the other elements of the sentence. In this study a comparative analysis has been made by applying the Government and Binding Theory and the Case Theory to contemporary Turkic dialects. This study consists of Introduction, Basic Subjects and Concepts and Analysis. In the Introduction, general information about subject, purpose, scope and method of the study and Case System and Syntax in Turkic language have been given. In the first section named Basic Subjects and Concepts Universal Grammar that constitutes the theoretical framework of the study and Government and Binding Theory have been discussed in all aspects. The second section of the study named Analysis has been prepared on the basis of the Case Theory. In this section, Case Theory has been applied to Turkish language with examples from 19 Turkic dialects used as written language. For that purpose, firstly 100 verbs have been determined from Turkey Turkish. Secondly the first meanings of these 100 verbs has been taken as basis and the sentences suitable for those meanings have been constructed. The sentences in question have been reconstructed in other Turkic dialects by the source persons by doing field research and questionnaire, and a database has been prepared for the study. Based on the database, governing and case suffix assignment conditions of the verbs have been examined. As the result of the study, a morphosyntactic analysis has been made to contribute to the syntax studies by determining the similarities and differences in the governing and case suffix assignment of verbs between dialects.
