Abstract (EN)
Old Uyghur Turkish, which is accepted as the second period of Old Turkish after Kokturk language, has created a different culture and literature as a result of both religious changes and other changes in social life. The vocabulary and syntax of Old Uyghur Turkish, which has a distinct appearance within Old Turkish due to the adopt a settled life, migrations, intensely differentiated interactions with religions such as Manichaeism, Buddhism and Christianity, etc., differs from other periods for the reasons mentioned above. During this period, the Uyghurs translated works, especially religious ones, in order to understand the belief systems of that religion. In doing so, in order to express the sentence structures in the works, they have resorted to the method of expressing concepts and structures that are not found in Turkish, sometimes by taking them directly from these languages, sometimes by producing similar concepts and structures, and sometimes by combining them with concepts and structures in their own languages. For this reason, this study focuses on the syntax of Old Uyghur Turkish. In the aforementioned syntax analysis, Goverment and Binding Theory was taken as the basis as the method. The study consists of four sections in total, including the Introduction and Conclusion sections. The Introduction section provides information on the topic, aim of the study, limitations, data area of the research, Uyghur history and Uyghur literature. This is followed by a discussion of the sentence, subordinate clause and related concepts, as well as ideas put forward in the literature about these concepts. In the Section One of the study, firstly the subordinate clause structures in the contact languages of Old Uyghur Turkish are mentioned. Then, Goverment and Binding Theory was mentioned. Section Two covers the analysis part. In this section, Turkic type relative clause and other subordinate clause structures with a qualification function are discussed. In Conclusion section, the features that are determined related to Old Uyghur Turkic clauses and make the period particular as a result of our analysis have been specified as items.
