Antibacterial activities of essential oils and extracts of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) cultivated in yozgat conditions

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out in 2017-2018 at Yozgat Bozok University Faculty of Agriculture in order to determine the antibacterial activity of essential oil and extracts of coriander (Coriandrum sativim L.) grown in Yozgat conditions. In the study, the flowers, fresh stalk and leaves, seeds and dry stalks of coriander cultivars (Arslan and Gürbüz) grown in Yozgat ecology conditions and their essential oils from seeds were used as materials. The antibacterial activity of essential oils with ethanol and methanol extracts obtained from different plant parts was investigated by disk diffusion method against 8 bacterial species [ 1 Gram- positives (Staphylococcus aureus) and 7 Gram- negative (Escherıchia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium, Serratia marcescens, Proteus vulgaris, Enterobacter cloacae, Klebsiella pneumoniae)] . According to our findings, the essential oil content of Arslan and Gürbüz cultivars were 0.31% and 0.42%, respectively. In the essential oils of Arslan and Gürbüz cultivars were determined 17 and 20 components, respectively. In the essential oil of both cultivars, the main component was recorded as linalool (average 73.95%). The essential oils exhibited activity against the tested bacteria, but almost no effect of the extracts was observed.
