Abstract (EN)

One of the most important steps of design phase is hull form optimization. This optimization is usually based on stability, resistance and propulsion. It is important to obtain the ship motions in random waves because of the complexity of sea surface. The shipmaster might decrease speed voluntarily or involuntarily as regards to sea conditions. Loss of speed, added resistance, decreasing propulsion efficiency due to waves and the most important one seasickness phenomenon force engineer to build more seaworthy ships. In this master thesis, displacement values, main dimensions and their proportions ,hull form parameters of YTU cruiser stern gulets which affect seakeeping abilities are investigated in detail. Nowadays, gulets are used as sailing boats in Aegean and Mediterranean, it is important to improve their seakeeping abilities. Habitability index values of 21 different gulets are calculated for saloon- bridge vertical acceleration and pitch motion in the first part of thesis. Habitability index values are shown in graphs for each gulet. In the second part of the thesis, effects of geometric characteristics on specified ship motions are determined by taking equal displacement values for all ships.
