Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY Master Thesis INVESTIGATION OF THE DIFFUSION BONDING OF A STAINLESS STEEL WITH A HIGH CHROMIUM AND NICKEL CONTENT TO A PLAIN-LOW CARBON STEEL Sermin KOÇER Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Metallurgy Education 1998, Page: 77 Diffusion bonding is one of the advanced bonding processes in which two materials, similar or dissimilar, can be bonded in solid state. This provides to bond materials in a large range from composites to ceramics which cannot be bonded with conventional bonding methods. One of the most important advantages of this method is to produce new bimetals or dissimilar material couples. In this study diffusion bonding conditions of a low- carbon steel and a duplex stainless steel were investigated. In the first chapter of the study an introductory information is given. In the second chapter, a comprehensive literature research about diffusion bonding and its parameters and a short description on superplasticity are presented. In the third chapter, the materials which have bonded by diffusion bonding are dealt with by a classification with respect to the kind of materials. In the fourth chapter the experimental studies are given. In the fifth chapter the results of theVI studies are presented. In the sixth and final chapter, the results are evaluated and some recommendations are given. From the results it was seen that this material couple could be bonded effectively by diffusion bonding in an argon-protective atmosphere at 900, 1000 and 1100°C under the pressures of 1.7 and 3 MPa in fifteen minutes. The best result was obtained with the specimen bonded at 900°C under 3 MPa and 15 minutes. It can be concluded from the results that micro structure transformations could have a considerable effect on diffusion rate and consequently on the bonding process itself. Key Words: Diffusion Bonding, Diffusion Welding, Plain Carbon Steel, Duplex Stainless Steel, Solid State Bonding.
