Abstract (EN)

When examining tall buildings which are known for their sensitivity to lateral loads such as earthquakes, are concentrated in Turkey, one of the first cities that remarkable is Istanbul. As for considering the possible Istanbul earthquake, evaluating the earthquake performances of high-rise buildings in the city is an inevitable circumstance. In order to make this evaluation, the history of tall buildings, the development of legislation on tall buildings in the world, the structural systems used in tall buildings, the loads affecting tall buildings, the rules in the 2018 Earthquake Regulation, and the Structural Health Monitoring System Directive are summarized in the study. Istanbul was chosen for the field study, and five examples of high-rise buildings with different structural systems (Sapphire Tower, Metrocity, Elit Residence, Istanbul Gelişim University (Zorlu Plaza) and Çamlıca Hill Radio and TV Tower) were analyzed through the rules of the health monitoring directive and irregularities in the buildings which is defined in the earthquake code of Turkey. Irregularities in the buildings were determined and suggestions were made for sensor placement according to the building health monitoring directive. In this study, the importance of earthquake codes for tall buildings has been tried to be emphasized. In addition, expanding the literature is aimed for raising awareness about this issue in the architectural literature by examining the subject of "Building Health Monitoring System" in high-rise buildings.
