Abstract (EN)

Activated carbon synthesis has previously been described to include the use of biomasses, like Olive seed. In addition, the use of H2SO4 concentration, stirring time, and pyrolysis temperature as chemical activation agents in the synthesis stage has not been studied until now. In this experiment, olive seeds were burned in an inert gas atmosphere to produce activated carbon. It was determined that the active carbons were produced by treatment of H2SO4 in the ranges of concentrations from 10% ,25% and, 40%, stirring time between 4-16 hours, and temperatures between 550-650 oC were measured. Conductivity, FTIR, SEM, and BET measurements were used to characterize the adsorbents. In the pre - concentration process, factors including pH, stirring time, and beginning volume was varied for optimisation of analytical parameters. The adsorbent produced using optimal parameters (modified with 40% sulfuric acid, stirred for 16 hours and obtained at 650 oC) was used to determine toxic elements in natural waters at the optimized preconcentration pH conditions (pH 5 for Pb) and 60 minutes of stirring time as the optimum for Pb. Multi-element determinations were made using the ICP - MS technique in these studies. Pb concentrations in natural waters ranged from 1.3 to 2.1 ppb (ng / ml), when pre - concentration techniques were used under optimal conditions. All of the elements examined were determined to be less than the World Health Organization's limit levels.
