Abstract (EN)

Olive oil mill waste water (OOMW) is a highly toxic by product due to its oil, grease and suspended solid composition and therefore, remediation effects draw major attention in the Mediterranean countries. In the present study, the effects of OOMW discharge from olive refineries in Küçükkuyu, Çanakkale has been investigated. For this purpose, the distribution of littoral species representing local flora and fauna were characterized and water quality parameters (temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, COD, BOD, TSS, TN) were determined seasonaly from predetermand stations selected at various depths. In addition, temporal (24, 48, 72 and 96 h) acute toxic effects of OOMW at the different concentration on M. galloprovincialis, M. turbinata and P. caerulea have been investigated in the laboratuary. According to the results of the laboratory assays, while the mean LC50 values for M. galloprovincialis and M. turbinata were found to be 0,13 mg/L, the LC50 values for P. caerulea was 0,15 mg/L.
