Abstract (EN)

The present study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of the simultaneous prompting method on teaching overshoe-making skills to the students with intellectual disability. The study used multiple probe design with probe conditions across subjects, which is a type of single subject research design, in order to achieve the anticipated results. This research was applied to three students, one female and two male, who are currently attending Mehmet Ali Susam Educational Practice School and Vocational Training Center and met the research participation criteria. The dependent variable of the study is overshoe-making skill. The independent variable of the study is teaching with simultaneous prompting in training for overshoe-making skill. The effectiveness of the simultaneous prompting in teaching overshoe-making skills to the individuals with intellectual disabilities was evaluated through full probe, daily probe, instruction, maintenance, and generalization sessions. A single opportunity format was used to evaluate the performance level of the subjects of the study. All sessions were conducted in one-on-one teaching format. The study adopted elucidating and verbal prompting in order to teach all the levels together during training. Inter-agent reliability and application reliability data were collected. The research findings indicated that simultaneous prompting was effective on teaching overshoe-making skills. Accordingly, it was observed that all the students were able to learn overshoe-making skills as a result of the proposed method. It was also observed that the participating students were able to generalize the acquired skills to the different environments, equipment and observers.
