Determination of parents' attitudes to complementary andalternative medicine through complementary and alternative medicineusage

Purpose: It was carried out in order to determine the attitudes and use of holistic complementary and alternative medicine methods of parents. Method: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted between 01.03.2021 and 31.06.2021 with the pediatric emergency, pediatric ou tpatient clinics of a public and university hospital, and the parents who accepted the research in the community. 401 parents participated in the study, and the data were obtained online with the "Sociodemographic Data Form", "Complementary and Alternative Medicine Information Form" and "Attitude Scale towards Integrated Complementary and Alternative Medicine". SPSS 22.0 statistical package program was used in the analysis of the data. Results: 47.6% of the parents stated that they learned complementary and alternative by doing research on their own. It was determined that they used 28.4% for relaxation, 27.2% for protection, 36.9% for support, and 7.5% for treatment. In a broader context, parents; It was determined that it was used for pain in 55.4%, strengthening the immune system in 40.9%, cough in 38.7%, constipation in 28.9%, and anemia in 26.4%. It is seen that the attitudes of the parents towards holistic complementary and alternative medicine are above the moderate level. It was determined that the attitude increased significantly in women and with age. Conclusion: It was determined that parents who obtained their information about complementary and alternative from different sources used these methods in their children and their attitudes towards complementary and alternative were above the moderate level.
