Rotavirus and adenovirus frequency among 0-5 years old children with acute gastroenteritis

Abstract (EN)
Acute gastroenteritis caused by bacteria viruses or parasites (AGA) mostly get into the body through contaminated food and water consumed that can be dangerous especially for children. In this study, we were determined to distribution frequency of adenovirus and rotavirus among 0-5 years old children with AGA according to gender, age and the seasons. 1080 stool samples that sent to microbiology laboratory from children with AGA were studied by Adenovirus Rotavirus antigen kit in one year. 173 of these samples (16 %) were found positivity for rotavirus while 65 samples (6 %) were found positivity for adenovirus. Positivity rates was found to be similar between boys and girls. Rotavirus incidence of age group of 7-12 months, 13-24 months, 37-48 months, 49-60 months were found to be higher than other age group. The frequency of adenovirus was found to be similar in all age groups. Rotavirus was more common in winter and spring. Adenovirus was seen less frequently in summer than other seasons. As a result, we observed both viruses can infect to children without gender difference. Adenovirus is seen less in summer while rotavirus can be detected especially in spring and winter. And thought to be especially in this seasons in children with AGA. Key words: Adenovirus, Age groups, Child, Gastroenteritis, Rotavirus.
