Abstract (EN)
This research was carried out as a descriptive study in order to evaluate the Attitudes of Mothers with 0-6 Months-Old Babies, living in Silopi, Şırnak, towards Breastfeeding. Ethics committee permission, scale permissions, and permission from the institution and participants were obtained before starting the research. The sample of the study consisted of 235 people living in Silopi District of Şırnak Province and voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. The data of the study were collected by face-to-face interview method using the "Data Collection Form" and the "Breastfeeding Attitude Evaluation Scale". SPSS 25.0 (Statistical Package of Social Sciences for Windows) statistical package program was used in the analysis of the data obtained in the study. It was determined that The majority of the mothers participating in the study were 34.9% between the ages of 31 and 45, 33.2% were literate, 88.5% did not work in any job, 72.8% lived in an extended family, 64.3% resided in the district, 50.6% economy is equal to income and expenditure, 91.1% have no health problems, more than half of the babies are girls, 52.8% of the babies are between 0 and 3 months old, 46.4% have a birth weight between 6010 and 9700 g, and 69.4% of babys she was born by normal birth. When the mothers' attitudes towards breastfeeding were evaluated, it was determined that most of them breastfed their babies, but they also had to supplement with formula. The mothers stated that the reasons for giving formula were insufficient breast milk and the occurrence of pregnancy. It was determined that the mothers did not have enough milk, therefore they mostly gave only breast milk to their babies for about 3 months. It was determined that mothers breastfed their babies within the first hour after birth. In addition, it was determined that the mothers had the problem of not being able to attach the baby to the breast due to nipple collapse and cracked nipples, lack of breastfeeding education and mistakes made in breastfeeding techniques, that they did not produce enough milk, and that they supplemented with formula in the first days of life. In addition, it was observed that they mostly demanded support from family elders and exhibited false information and attitudes while breastfeeding. In the study, it was determined that the socio-demographic characteristics that most affected the evaluation of attitudes towards breastfeeding were literacy status, extended family structure, number of children, and not receiving breastfeeding education, respectively (p<0.05).
