Abstract (EN)

Ottoman Empire, which ruled three continents, is one of the most rooted and biggest empires of the history. The empire was founded upon the Turkish imperial tradition which it had inherited from the Turkish states, which had been established before. However, it improved the organization of the state to its supreme degree and set the structure of the government on the basis of justice by seeing its job as providing the people from all religions, languages, races and cultures with peace and sereneness in accordance with the ideal of sovereignty over the world. In Ottoman?s law system, the officials who carried out the justice were the Moslem judges, called ?Kadı?. The post of `Kadı? is one of the early founded institutions in Ottoman Empire. The records pertaining Islamic law (Ser?iye Sicilleri), the cadis registered, are the most important first hand sources of the empire. In the records, it is possible to find information, belonging to its era, on society, economy, politics and justice as well as the city structure. As a result of an evaluation of the third part of Kütahya?s Islamic Law Records No.1 (Kütahya Ser?iye Sicili no. 1), we have been able to obtain information, relating to the age when it was recorded, about customs; names of places and people; titles; civil and criminal laws as well as the affairs of the time. Our study aims to make a contribution to the ones who are going to do a research on the history and the functioning of Ottoman Empire in the broadest sense as well as on Kütahya?s social and economic structure in the narrow sense.
