Hüseyin b. Hasan el-Helhâlî'nin Beydâvî tefsiri üzerine yaptığı haşiyenin tahkik ve incelemesi (Kıyâmeh Suresinden Nâs Suresine kadar)

This study examines and critically editions Ḥusayn ibn Ḥasan al-Khalkhālī's (d. 1014 H.) marginal commentary on the al-Bayḍāwī Tafsīr, covering the portion from Sūrat al-Qiyāmah to Sūrat al-Nās. This commentary holds significant value in both linguistic and tafsīr sciences, as it provides a comprehensive explanation of the al-Bayḍāwī Tafsīr, which itself is a concise version of al-Zamakhsharī's al-Kashshāf. Therefore, the scholarly attention given to this work reflects an interest in both the al-Bayḍāwī and al- Zamakhsharī's tafsīrs. The critical edition is based on three manuscripts preserved in Turkey. The study employs a historical-descriptive approach to examine the scholarly lives of al-Bayḍāwī and al-Halkhâlî. In the edition section, a comparative method was applied: texts were compared, textual variants were noted in the footnotes, and references were documented meticulously. One of the main findings of the study is that al-Halkhâlî was one of the leading Sunni scholars in Azerbaijan during his time, possessing exceptional expertise in language, tafsīr, and logic. Moreover, he articulated positions against deviant sects such as the Mu'tazilah, affirmed the vision of God on the Day of Resurrection, and emphasized that the Divine Essence has no comparable counterpart. al- Khalkhālī's broad cultural knowledge, the richness of his sources, and his skill in presenting and reconciling differing views are particularly noteworthy. The commentary encompasses a wide range of exegetical material, including interpretive notes, logical analysis, rhetorical devices (badī'), literary embellishments, grammatical and morphological discussions, and guidance on different qirā'āt (readings). The author does not merely transmit the opinions of previous exegetes; he analyzes their expressions, clarifies problematic passages, and selects the interpretation most appropriate to the meaning of the verses, thereby making an original contribution to tafsīr scholarship. His selections are further supported by the views of other exegetes, linguists, and scholars. In conclusion, this study provides a valuable contribution to the tafsīr literature, combining scholarly depth with a clear and engaging style.
