Abstract (EN)

This study addresses the examination and critical edition (tahqiq) of the book "Ḍawʾ al-Laʾālī fī Sharḥ Badʾ al-Amālī" by Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī al-Nūbī (d. 1036 AH/1626 AD), which presents a range of issues related to creeds ('aqāʾid). The importance of this commentary stems from the significance of the original poem (naẓm), as the "Badʾ alAmālī" is a renowned poem in the science of Tawhid (Oneness of God) and the principles of religion (uṣūl al-dīn), authored by the scholar Sirāj al-Dīn ʿAlī ibn ʿUthmān al-Ūshī alFarghānī al-Ḥanafī (d. 575 AH/1179 AD). It comprises the Islamic faith's fundamental tenets and comprises sixty-eight verses. The commentary also includes the most critical opinions of commentators on this text, such as Abū Bakr al-Jaṣṣāṣ al-Rāzī (d. 370 AH/980 AD). The critical edition relied on three manuscript copies. The study employed the descriptive-historical method when researching al-Nūbī's personal and scholarly biography, reviewing the features of the era in which he lived and the events that took place. The study also adopted a comparative method in the edited section, copying the text, comparing its versions, noting the differences in the footnotes without commenting on these differences, referencing the Quranic verses and Prophetic Hadith, and attributing the texts and sayings to their sources. The study concluded with several significant findings, most notably the author's attention to mentioning the opinions of scholars on the explained issues from the school of Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Jamāʿa (People of the Sunna and the Community) first and foremost, and his refutations of the beliefs of innovators (mubtadiʿa) from the Muʿtazila, Murjiʾa, Jahmiyya, Shi'a, and other deviant sects that contradicted the majority of Ahl al-Sunna. Among his creedal preferences in the book are: affirming that supplication (duʿāʾ) benefits the living and the dead and is for averting the suspended (muʿallaq) decree (qaḍāʾ), not the inevitable (mubram) one, preferring to refrain from cursing Yazīd ibn Muʿāwiya and that engaging in what is more worthy, such as glorification (tasbīḥ), is better; negating prophethood for women, including Maryam (Mary); affirming prophethood for al-Khiḍr (peace be upon him); confirming the miracles (karāmāt) of the saints (awliyāʾ) and refuting the Muʿtazila and Ẓāhiriyya who deny them. The author made some exaggerations, such as his transmission of the statement of alBurhān al-Ḥalabī that the Ṣirāṭ (the bridge over Hell) is a hair from the hair of Mālik, the guardian of Hellfire. He also cited some weak Hadith, including the fact that the age of the world is seven thousand years. Overall, the commentary is replete with many linguistic and creedal issues, revealing the author's personality and vast scholarly culture
