The Middle East policy of the United States of America after September 11 2001

After the Cold War, US Middle East policy has faced some changes.After 1990, when the Cold War came to an end, especially after the `GulfCrisis?, Russia (former USSR) had no influence left on the Middle East,except from Iran. Therefore USA (and England) has become dominant in theMiddle East. USA has prepared the world view that it has foreseen and thebasis for it in the Middle East with the military bases it built since the GulfCrisis till September, 11, 2001.The attacks in USA on September,11, 2001 have been a turning pointin the US external and Middle East policies. The terrorist attacks targetingWorld Trade Center and Pentagon on September, 11, 2001 have created anopportunity for the US to implement the policies it had determined before.The attacks that caused the death of thousands of innocent people resultedin military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, however, what was even moresignificant was that they caused many problems in the field of internationalrelations and law together with the `Preventive Military Intervention? doctrine,which was announced on September, 20, 2002 by President Bush and alsoknown as the `Bush Doctrine?. Thus, the planes which crashed into thetowers on September, 11, 2001 have, in a sense, crashed into USA and theinternational system it was dominant upon.According to some people, this was a conspiracy prepared by USAitself. During the early 2000s, by taking advantage of its monopolistic status,if USA had not attempted to build a new USA-centered world system, in 10-15 years time, the one sided superiority of USA was going to disappear. Andthe `power centers? in USA, who had adopted this idea and strategy hadchosen Bush as the president and by preparing September 11, had causedthe Bush government to start international operations.The terrorist attacks targeting important spots in USA during the earlyhours of September, 11, 2001 have not only caused USA to makeconsiderable changes in its Middle East policy, but also triggered ideas likeclash of civilizations, and discrimination amongst nations. These eventshave encouraged the already existing instability in the region even more, ledto new psychological, socio-economical and political problems, and willcontinue to do so.If the situation continues as it is today, the Middle East, seen as atarget to be changed using projects like `The Great Middle East Project?under the US hegemony after September,11, 2001, will witness more wars ofhegemony in the years to come.
