The evaluation of Population Registers of Coastal Villages in Gonio and Batumi Number 1170

This study named ?The Evaluation of Population Registers of Coastal Villages in Gonio and Batumi Number 1170? includes the sections ?Introduction?, ?First Chapter?, ?Second Chapter? and ?Conclusion?. In this study, the demographic structures of the related places in the 19th century are examined. It is clear that people?s interest in the future parallels with their interest in the past since they just have the present moment. People don?t have a definite effect on the future. In the same way, past is already in the past with all the things lived. It is a period of time which is not possible to change or control. Genealogy is one of the subjects people care most about the past. For this reason, some societies have prepared lists of family tree and the families whose roots go more back to the past have gained special reputation. The population registers on which I have studied, kept with the code NFS.d and the number 1170 in the Turkish Republic Prime Ministry General Directorate of State Archives Departmant of Ottoman Archives, shed light on the roots of the families who live there now or migrated to other places in the past. In the ?Introduction? section of the study, the reason and the related viewpoint is expressed. In the ?First Chapter?, how the census is recorded to the papers and the meanings of some words and phrases in the papers are analysed. In the ?Second Chapter?, population registers which form the main body of the study are showed in Latin alphabet. In the ?Conclusion? section, several evaluations arised from this long-term study are presented. Despite the fact that the demographic data were only recorded according to men?s population for several reasons is a lack, with some approximative calculations, it?s possible to examine the state of total population which includes the number of both men and women. On the other hand, family names, nicknames, and even physical descriptions of people in the registers are of great importance to other researchs planned to do.
