Abstract (EN)

The aim of the interview is to determine the levels of self-esteem of male students aged 12-14 years. It was observed that a total of 701 male students participated in the study during the academic year of 2016-2017 and the age ranges were 12-14. Rosenberg's Self Esteem Scale and the personal information form prepared by the researcher were used for the data collection. The data were collected by the simple unbiased sampling method and the age average of the students selected was X yaş =12.78±0.80. Taking the normal distributions of data into consideration, T-Test and Pearson Moment Product correlation test were applied to independent samples and the significance level was taken as 0.05. Among the participants, the highest self-esteem level was found to be 14 years old, but no statistically significant difference was found according to other ages. Also, it was concluded that the students whose mothers did not work had higher levels of self-esteem than their mothers [T (699) = 2.096; p<0.05]. When male students' academic grade averages were examined, there was a low positive correlation with self-esteem levels (r = .158; p <0.05). This finding suggests that as grades decrease, self-esteem levels rise. Finally, there was a low negative correlation (r= -.079, p<0.05) with respect to the average score of self- esteem level according to the successfulness in sporting competitions at national level. This finding suggests that as the number of successes increases, self-esteem levels also raise. According to the results of the research, it is important to ensure more participation of male students, especially during adolescence, in control of sports activities, and at the same time raise awareness of the teachers and coaches in the educational process. Furthermore, it can be argued that the support of students' parental attachment and communication with the mother has a significant effect on the development of self-esteem.
